Looking after black iron

Care and use

  1. Black iron is supplied with a protective lacquer: remove it by washing in hot soapy water before use.
  2. Season before use: gently heat about 1cm of oil in the base, let it cool, pour the oil away and wipe with kitchen paper. This starts a natural patina and non-stick layer.
  3. Wipe out with kitchen paper after every use; store in a dry place to avoid rust. Light rust can be carefully removed with a scourer, then re-season.
  4. Do not use detergents, scouring pads or abrasive cleaners, and do not submerge in water (it can damage the seasoning). Not dishwasher safe.
  5. Suitable for all heat sources.
